MGMT covers Laid Back at KCRW

The miraculous, extravagant, uber psyched out dance-punk duo, MGMT, dropped off by KCRW’s radio station yesterday, where they performed an awesome set. The powerful indie anthems, “Time to Pretend” and “Electric Feel,” were obviously the stand out songs, after all they’re the radio darlings, but the band surprised us by opting to also do a cover song. The victims covered artists were a ’80s Danish synth-pop band called Laid Back, that had a short break…

Download: Jack White & Alicia Keys – ‘Another Way to Die’

We’ve really talked about the new Bond theme song pretty extensively, these past few days, from the coke ad we first had the chance to glimpse a few riffs of it, to Jack White’s flattering praises when discussing his collaboration with Alicia Keys. Anyway, the latest Bond theme song, “Another Way to Die,” finally hit the air waves today, and, from the few listens I’ve had, it deserves the hype. The song’s simply wonderful! Jack…

Pinback kicks off autumn tour

Pinback’s last year Autumn of the Seraphans was really awesome for me, with a lot of great hooks and memorable riffs. Anyway, what better way to promote the album then an autumn tour? No pun intended, of course. The tour kicks off tonight, in Dallas, and is set to keep the band all busy the whole months of September and October. Joining Pinback on stage, during the curse of the tour, will be Kylesa, sBach…

A moment for Rick Wright

null

Every once in a while, we are reminded that even music legends are humans, and even they have to obey the laws set by mother nature for us. Rick Wright, keyboardist, song writer and founding member of Pink Floyd died at 65, in 15 September. While it’s very natural that we regret and shall miss him, now is not the time to feel sorry and regret; now is not the…

Lily Allen set to release new album in 2009

After her debult album, “Alright, Still,” made a lot of waves in the Brit pop scene, Lily Allen is ready to take things to the next level with her upcoming sophomore album, “Stuck on The Naughty Step,” in which she’ll try to make a bit of sound transition from Ska to electro-pop, while still retaining her well written verses. Apparently, the album is already written and recorded for over a month, but complication with her…

Kanye remasters ‘Love Lockdown’

Kanye’s latest single, that seems to be on every hip kid’s iPod as of lately, “Love Lockdown,” has been remastered, after he hit the studio again, in an attempt to hide the song’s hurried, cranky and, well, just incomplete nature. Love Lockdown was released for the first time during last week’s VMA’s, in an attempt to capitalize on the live performance of the song, however, due to Kanye’s intent on getting this song as fast…

New Music Monday: 15 September

This week’s a bit poor, in term of releases, but some worthy mentions are certainly present. Lindsey Buckingham, who some of you old timers may recognize him as the Fleetwood Mac guitarist and occasional vocalist, is releasing his latest solo effort today, called “Gift of Screws.” His previous solo stuff, “Out of the Cradle” and “Under the Skin” were really good, and from what I’ve read Gift of Screws isn’t any lower, quality wise. The…
