Grammys Can’t Headbang

Yes, this column is months and months late. Get over it. I wasn’t writing for ZME in February and, more importantly, I have a valid point to make. So here we go. The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences doesn’t know shit about music. The Grammy Awards used to mean something and were actually worth paying attention to. I don’t know when the award’s value began its downward trend. Perhaps it was when Album…

New Arctic Monkeys video: ‘Crying Lightning’ (live @ Late Night with Jimmy Fallon)

The band handled themselves marvelously during their live performance for Jimmy Fallon’s Late Night Show where they played their new single “Crying Lightning”. Not a lot of stage persona, but the sound was simply impecable! Seems like the band (and hair) is getting better and better as each album goes by. Check out the performance bellow or, for better quality, here. “Humbug” is out August 24th.

Download: Taken by Trees – ‘Watch The Waves’

One word for Victoria Bergsman’s latest album, recorded under the Taken by Trees moniker: bliss! For her sophomore release, dubbed “East of Eden,” the ex-Concretes (check out our interview with the band) lead singer paired up with talented musician/sound engineer Andreas Soderstrom and traveled to Pakistan to record, filling some of the instruments with the help of some of the local Sufi musicians. Interview with Northern Portrait’s Stefan Larsen

Northern Portrait are a relatively new indie pop band. They formed only two years ago, yet as you’ll find out (or perhaps, as you already know) they have released two EPs and are to release their very first album. They come from Denmark and are on the look for the best pop song. Apparently, they have come quite close to this. If you want to check some of their so far released tracks, just go…

New lost Modest Mouse video: ‘King Rat’ (directed by Heath Ledger)

Seems like Modest Mouse’s frontman Isaac Brock and the late Heath Ledger were  friends, revealing, among other things, in a past interview 2007 interview, that the two had been working on a music video for one of the band’s songs “King Rat” (any tie to the James Clavell novel?). The song didn’t make the cut for MM’s ‘We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank’ LP, but you can find it now in their recently…

Coldplay sell tickets for 1$

The British ‘rockers’ (really?) seem to have fallen in the dark cold claws of the global recession, with tickets for their latest tour being sold online as low as 1$. They’ve been touring the US since May this year and they’ve been bringing together quite a crowd, with about 50.000 people per show and they’re bringing the show back in the UK in September. If you buy tickets from shops, they’ll be somewhere in the…

New Weird Al Yankovic video: ‘Charles Nelson Reilly’

After Weird Al’s last kinda depressingly fun video for Skipper Dan, he’s finally back to his hilarious self with his latest video for “CNL”, packed with loads of parody and his all too sweet hooks. On CNL Al goes for a Chuck Norris take on Reilly’s life, singing an…
