According to a news post from earlier today, on [tag]Franz Ferdinand[/tag]’s myspace page, the Brits will attend a show in New York’s Bowery Ballroom on June 13th. Tickets for this show will go on sale at midday on Thursday 7th June through ticketweb.com.
This show comes right after Franz Ferdinand’s excellent performance for their fellow town’s folk in Glasgow, at the Grand Ole Oprey Country And Western Club and comes as a great worm up for the Bonnaroo Festival in Manchester, Tennessee two days later.
The English quintet from Buckinghamshire [tag]Tonight is Goodbye[/tag] has recently announced details on their forthcoming British headline tour alongside Death Can Dance and You Me At Six. The band has made a name out of itself, after winning a competition on Taste of Chaos tour, at the Brixton Academy, where they played alongside band like [tag]Taking Back Sunday[/tag], [tag]Underoath[/tag] or [tag]Saosin[/tag].
The band’s EP, called [tag]The Birds and The Bees[/tag] will be available on the market on the 4th of june and their video for the “Black Dress” track will be released the 10th of June.
The Southern Carolina indie band [tag]The Films[/tag] is set to release a new single from their debut album: “Don’t Dance Rattlesnake“, on the on the 11th of June through 7HZ Recording.
The track is called “Belt Loops” and is their second single after “Black Shoes”. Produced by Tim Patalan, “Belt Loops” is being described, by lyrics man Michael Trent, as “a paranoid jealousy kind of song”. Besides “Belt Loops”, the single features two more songs: “Holliewould Getaway”, another song from the album and “Blitzreig Bop”, a track exclusive originally performed by The Ramones.
Everybody is all exited about [tag]White Stripes[/tag] new upcoming album, entitled “Icky Thump” scheduled for release on June 19th. A music video called as the album, “Icky Thump”, has been released a few days ago and since then caused a lot of fuss around it. I found the video awesome, some classic White Stripes hard rocking is present here, with Jack putting his guitar to good use with amazing riffs and Meg with some serious drumming.
The video is nicely made with a one eyed Mexican prostitute Meg and a no good gringo Jack, all happening in a Mexican whorehouse, pretty sweet!
Also for their 10th band anniversary the happy Whites, Jack and Meg will tour through al lot of places they’ve never been at in the USA and Canada.
“We were leery for a long time … we’d never had the trust in us to do it,” he says. “It would have been a bad idea to do that on ‘White Blood Cells.’ We had them all offering it then. But I think it would have been over very quickly for us. We would have been a new flavor of the week and probably would have been a one-hit wonder with ‘Fell in Love With a Girl.”

Listen up folks, for the new British revolution is coming. Admist the Paul Weller inspired bands, that have worked their way into producing music steeped in disco badness, there is one group that has successfully “gone retro”, without any more a due i present: The Fratellis! There have been quite a few retro-inspired British indie rock bands jostling for attention lately (The Arctic Monkeys, Kaiser Chiefs and Bloc Party to name just a few). You might even be thinking that you’re just about done with all of them and it’s time to move on. Well, the three pseudo brothers from The Fratellis (Jon Fratelli – vocals & guitar, Barry Fratelli – bass guitar, Mince Fratelli) are here with their debut CD Costello Music to prove you wrong.
We could say that The Fratellis has been rather fortunate, as their album benefited from some nice promoting with a prestigious headlining tour and support slot with Kasabian when the album was early launched and with the latest iPod ad, which featured “Flathead”.The fantastic opening cut, “Henrietta”, fast-paced tale of lusting after a married woman, as upbeat guitar stabs pin down glammy melodies and some nifty rhythm breaks courtesy of bassist Barry Fratelli (his actual former surname, or so he claims) and drummer Mince Fratelli (Gordon McRory). Henrietta we got no flowers for you / Just these three miserable cunts / Sitting on the back seat banging on the off beat / We know you love us and you probably do
The “Whistle For The Choir” track has a nice style that resembles fellow Brit rockers The Libertines in its downbeat and provides a little downtime before “Chelsea Dagger”, which marks the beginning of wave of glam-rock inspired series of tracks, disrupted only by slower-paced “Doginabag. “For the Girl” gives lead singer Jon Fratelli a chance to reminisce on failed romances and throws around more “la la la”s, with its jumpy rhythm giving Jon many winking takes on the trials of love. I was into the Stones when she was into the Roses / She was breaking my bones when I was busting their noses
Track list:
1 Henrietta (3:31)
2 Flathead (3:17)
3 Whistle for the Choir (3:35)
4 Chelsea Dagger (3:35)
5 Gutterati? (2:28)
6 For the Girl (2:48)
7 Doginabag (3:20)
8 Creepin Up the Backstairs (3:06)
9 Vince the Loveable Stoner (3:14)
10 Everybody Knows You Cried Last Night (3:54)
11 Baby Fratelli (3:57)
12 Got Ma Nuts from a Hippy (3:10)
13 Ole Black ‘N’ Blue Eyes (3:14)
The Fratellis’s style may seem crude, maybe even juvenile, but their catchy and passionate tunes with nervous energy may cause some of you to keep playing their records for a long time ahead. Their new fresh sound helps revive the British Indie rock scen, taking its wearying routines to new places and infusing its sounds with much-needed energy, i guarantee we’ll be hearing a lot more from The Fratellis!
The Films is a band formed in Charleston, South Carolina, in the year 2003, that is currently highly rated by critics, despite the fact they haven’t launched an album till very recently. The band was formed by four high school acquaintances with different musical pasts: Michael Trent (Vocals, Guitar), Jake Sinclair (Bass, Vocals), Kenneth Harris (Guitar, Keys, Vocals) and Adam C. Blake (Drums).
After relentless touring from Atlanta to Nashville to Birmingham and back, the guys from The Films, have finally waxed twelve brand new hits wrought with spit, grit, attitude, despair, and charm.
The album is entitled “Don’t Dance Rattlesnake“, marking an effort that began with the early recordings in 2006 at The Loft studios in eastern Michigan. Through gruesome schedule they have successfully created an album in a time span that would take most bands skin up properly.
The record sums up a lot music influences, like Southern fried punk pop with Bowie and T Rex glam influences and sparky Britpop melodies that have become their brilliant first album ‘Don’t Dance Rattlesnake’
