New The Decemberists: ‘The Rake’s Song’

I simply loved this stunning animated video for The Decemberists “The Rake’s Song” from the very first moment I hit play! It’s all very well put together, revealing a colorful winter landscape, packed with an usual feel good vibe and equally feel good dancing cardboard figurines.  The video was was created and directed in Moscow, by Alex Dashino and Varvara Volodina, two second year students studying Moving Image at Central Saint Martins College of Art…

Grizzly Bear & Victoria Legrand stole Conan’s last night

Grizzly Bear were joined yesterday night by Beach House’s Victoria Legrand, with whom they also collaborated on the New Moon soundtrack, for an incredible performance at the end of Conan O’Brien’s The Tonight Show. A bit unexpectedly or not, the band played their smashing pop single “Two Weeks” Victoria handling the eerie backing vocals which simply sent a chill down everybody’s spine. Two Weeks is off Grizzly Bear’s most recent album Veckatimest out now.

New Basement Jaxx video: ‘Scars’

Well, you know me, I can’t resist a bucket of random. Basement Jaxx’s video for the electro duo’s latest single “Scars,” like most BJ visual contraptions from along the year,  is packed with weird loops of plants, chameleons, flying flowers and really menacing looking stuff. The CGI was rendered and directed by Dutch artist Jan Van Nuenen. Off the duo’s recently released full length studio album “Scars” out now via XL.

New Fruit Bats video: ‘The Ruminant Band’

After a run of somewhat mediocre releases across the band’s 10 years existence, Fruit Bats have returned this year with their forth full length, “The Ruminant Band.” I’ve yet to have the chance to  sample anything from it, expect the title track single and a few other tracks found on YouTube, but I’m really liking it so far. The video for The Ruminant Band, the album’s stand out track, tells the story of seemingly heart…

New Modest Mouse video: ‘Whale Song’

Coming off as one of the best video’s I’ve seen all year, this incredible piece of artwork visually animating Modest Mouse’s infectious “Whale Song” will most likely make you pause for a second or two after watching it and before hitting the play button again. Dark, enigmatic, intricate, it’s all been laid down by director Nando Costa to form a catatonic world of strings, mazes and twilight. Word of advice, don’t watch the video until…

Big Surprise(s) at Pearl Jam’s L.A. show

If you were lucky enough to have attended Pearl Jam’s show in L.A. on October 6, then you know that Temple of the Dog reunited for one song, “Hunger Strike,” when Chris Cornell joined the band onstage. It marks the first time in six years that all the members have shared a stage. The footage isn’t pro-shot but is definitely worth checking out. If that weren’t enough, PJ’s very next song (and last of the…

New Los Campesinos video: ‘There Are Listed Buildings’

A lot of things can happen when your next door suburban couple gets sick and tired of all the bullshit in the world. Running away is the most common thing, somewhere around there’s stealing too, but if you want to go after you girl and then tag her along for your personal vendetta against your boss, always remember never to go into a pool with your cloths on. No, really. “There Are Listed Buildings” is…

New Kiss video: ‘Modern Day Delilah’ (live @ David Letterman)

Kiss’ first album in a decade got out this week, backed up by unusual favorable reviews, considering their previous record, “Psycho Circus”, was more or less a flop. Recently, the band paid ol’ Dave a visit at his Late Night Show were they performed live the first single off the new album “Sonic Boom,” the infectiously reminiscent “Modern Day Delilah.” Sonic Boom is out now on Universal/Roadrunner. At the moment Kiss is on an extensive…
