Lily Juniper is a 17 year old London based singer songwriter currently studying at The BRIT School, and her sound epitomises the innocence that most of todays youth has so long outgrown. On her EP, released January last year, lie three songs that speak of confusion, love and longing. Lily’s soulful, gentle voice complements her poetic lyrics, and her simplistic melodies are all that is needed. The standout song for me is Not Enough, opening with a soft electric piano and the line ‘So many days are wasted/worrying about you’. Its simple, yet powerful. The song carefully builds up a crescendo of power and emotion, until the breakdown where she repeats the words ‘It’s not enough’, and goes back into the chorus. One of the most moving songs I’ve heard from a female singer-songwriter in a long time, and it will be interesting to see how she develops with age and experience.
