I took the last week to ask my friends and Twitter followers, what songs changed your life the first time you heard it? My main criteria was to choose songs that you could actually remember the first time you heard it, and that resonate with you still. Some people sent me songs about love or heartache. Some triggered memories of their family, or maybe a great party they went to. Others were an introduction to a musical genre they hadn’t enjoyed before, or something that finally explained a certain feeling they hadn’t been able to articulate in their own words. Be it the lyrics, the melody, or instrumentation, these songs hit us in a place which makes us stop for a moment and simply say,  “Yaaaaaaaaasssss.”  Maybe if you’re really feeling it, you just listen, and can’t say anything at all.

I’m going to let the music speak for itself. I didn’t put these songs in any particular order. I just hope you’ll enjoy the playlist* and share what songs changed your life and on every listen, still feel like the very first time.

*Some songs that people sent me , but Spotify doesn’t feature in it’s library:

Lauryn Hill – Tell Him

J Cole – I Get Up

Elton John – Tiny Dancer

Drake – Sooner or Later

Sergio Mendes – Magalenha

Dickon Hinchcliffe – Le Rallye
