Mon, Jun 25, 2007

News, Other

Day of SilenceOn July 15th, after a Congress deliberation, the radio web-casting royalty fees will double, which in term will cause small and mid sized webcasters to go bankrupt. As a response to this, the major web radios like Rhapsody, Yahoo, Pandora and other smaller ones, have united under the  SaveNetRadio Coalition. They will go in radio silence as of tomorrow, June 26,  for 24 hours, as a protest for the outrageous fees, which will lead to their demise.

“The arbitrary and drastic rate increases … threaten the very livelihood of thousands of webcasters and their millions of listeners,” says Jake Ward

The webcasters  advise that “Day of Silence” will become permanent as of 15 July , if something isn’t done.
