Mosquito: Yeah Yeah Yeahs come back with a bite

Since their third studio effort It’s Blitz (2009), gutsy New York threesome Yeah Yeah Yeahs have remained all-too-quiet on the music scene. The four-year silence was broken, however, when the group announced the drop date of its fourth album, dubbed Mosquito (yes, for the insect), two weeks ago on their site. The YYYs have also pledged to play a slough of new dates, including the two weekends of Coachella. When asked about the record, which has been in-the-works since…

This post is part of our “Top Albums of The Decade” series. Follow the series to read about the best music to grace our ears in the 2000s. Bat for Lashes – Fur & Gold (Parlophone/The Echo Label) Captivating and mystic, Natasha Khan’s bristling debut “Fur & Gold” is like a never-ending fairytale crossed with the gripping, heart breaking reality. New Music Monday: May 18

Band of Horses’ highly anticipated latest effort, “Infinite Arms” (what a brilliant cover art. don’t you think?), is finally out this week, much to the delight of millions of indie peeps in the world. We’ve posted the album stream last week, so let’s hear some thoughts regarding it. I, for one, believe it’s their best yet. Download: LCD Soundsystem – ‘Bye Bye Bayou’ (Alan Vega cover)

James Murphy’s first single in over a year is actually a cover, a damn right good one too, namely Alan Vega’s (Suicide) infectious 1980 released “Bye Bye Bayou.” Following the release of his incredible 2007 “Sound of Silver,” naturally, there will be some incredibly high expectations regarding LCD Soundsystem’s upcoming 2010 new effort. This latest track, however, doesn’t offer too much insight on what’s to come – all I know is that it’s very good….

Arcade Fire, LCD team up

There are not so many things that are similar about Arcade Fire and LCD Soundsystem. They are an anthemic Montreal-based indie rock band whose dress and instrumentation is more Baroque and a dance punk outfit whose fusion of synthesizers and rock sensibility is unquestionably contemporary. So the fact that they are doing something together may seem strange. But the two bands have proven unlikely friends and collaborators. They are currently touring together and that is…
