Download: Elika – ‘The Whip’

Elika is a Brooklyn based indie duo, that has caught my eye recently, thanks to their beautiful blend of eclectic music. I’m not even quite sure how to describe them, but if I were to label them somehow I’d say they’re somewhere between ’80s glam pop and modern day underground electronica. The two, Evagelia Maravelias (vocals, keyboards, drums) and Brian Wenckebach (guitar, keyboards, programming), hold a really powerful musical chemistry together, that can be sense…

NIN back to ‘discipline’ us with a new single

Yesterday night Trent released a new single over the airwaves and interwebs, titled “Discipline.” This comes just barely a month after his NIN released their most recent LP, the instrumental Ghosts. I’m a bit confused by Trent’s new strategy of releasing mass music, seeing how the band’s members are free agents, free from any label restrictions, this shouldn’t be a problem, but too much can really be too much. This can  most obviously be seen…

New Radiohead video: ‘House of Cards’ (live on Conan O’Brien)

A bit late on Earth Day, Brits Radiohead made a remote live performance from their recording studio in London, yesterday night, for Conan O’Brien’s Late Night Show in NY. The band played a masterful live take of “House of Cards” off In Rainbows and once again endorsed green activities. Oh and Thom called G. Bush a twat on national TV. As a side note the band made their TV network national debut on the Late…

A few days ago, on the 19th of April, people all over the world celebrated Record Store Day. Hey, people’ve made up more peculiar holidays then this one, so why not? 2007 was the year of reunions, but 2008 doesn’t fall too much behind neither, with more and more previously iconic acts getting back together. One of these acts is also the shoegazing pioneers My Bloody Valentine, a true sensation of the late ’80s. Back in November, frontman Kevin Shields, announced the band’s reforming and moreover fueled rumors that a new LP is in the making. Soon after fans were ecstatic to find out the band…

New Constantines video: ‘Hard Feelings’

Constantines are back in full force, after subsequently releasing a new record a few weeks ago in their northern homelands, in the form of Kensington Heights. “Hard Feelings” is the record’s first single, a hard stumped rocker, in all the power of the word. On the actual video is really cool, being a mixture of Sin City-like noir cinematography and Kaiser Chief’s cityscape Ruby. Kensigton Heights is out now in Canada and 4/29 in the…

Download: Télépathique – ‘Eu Gusto’

I’ve always had a thing for the Brazilian feel good vibe and culture. Music and dancing there is viewed as a celebration of life, which can be best seen during Carnivals. While over the years the Brazilian musical scene has delighted us with beautiful arrays of diverse genres and influences like the samba, bossa nova, funk carioca or one of my personal favorites, capoeira music, it’s now time for electronic music to make its presence…

And of course I couldn’t have rapped up…
