Interview Magazine recently conducted a interview with [tag]White Stripes[/tag] frontman Jack White, as part of their Cover Story. Some very interesting points were covered, among them marriage, Icky Thump and … jurnalists, whom according to Jack are about as lazy as a pack of slugs.
Here’s a snippet from the interview. Remember to read the whole thing here.
MD: A lot has already been written about Icky Thump. What have people gotten right and what have they gotten wrong?
JW: I’d say 90 percent of what they got is from the press release. We have fun putting funny things in there—like in the press release for Elephant [2005], somebody inserted a joke about how none of our studio equipment was made after 1963. Journalists are inherently the laziest people on earth. Even in the age of Google, they don’t do any work to check what they’re writing about. Before you knew it, people thought we wouldn’t touch a piece of equipment unless it’s 60 years old or something! It gets to the point where you’re answering questions based on a joke somebody made. [laughs]
Well some have issues with lawyers, Jack has with journalists, i only hope i’m part of those 10 % that aren’t eating any bullshit.
[tag]White Stripes[/tag] are ready to team up once again with the Malloy Brothers, after the Icky Thump video, on their latest video for “You Don’t Know What Love Is (You Just Do as You’re Told)”. Their time touring Canada was put to good use, as they managed to film the video between gigs there. The video is very relaxing, highlights include Jack playing guitar in front a of beautiful white house, Meg and Jack strolling by the beach and some very cool arctic Canadian scenery. Watch the video here, if you’re not from the US then this isn’t your day.
The drummer of the Nashville indie rock band [tag]Kings of Leon[/tag], Nathan Followill, one of the four Followills ( three brothers and one cousin) composing the band proposed yesterday night to his girlfriend. Nathan popped the big question to his girlfriend Jessie Baylin, at her parents New York restaurant, over a bottle of Cristal. Not every one is too happy about this, Nathans marriage, it seems, interfering with his commitment to the band, according to KoL frontman Caleb Followill.
“If he doesn’t get a pre-nuptial agreement, he’s an idiot,” Caleb says for The Independent. “Me and him have a lot invested in each other,” he adds, not looking at his brother. “We started this band. We’ve bought land and houses together. We’ve been best friends since we were little biddy boys. I don’t want him to make mistakes.”
To whom Nathan countered with: “Look at Bono–he’s been married his whole career. It’s different for me than it is for Caleb, I’m pushing 30. It’s always hard when big brother starts devoting time to a girl that would normally be devoted to little brother.”
It would be a shame for a such a great band to fight each other for such petty issues, it would be a even greater shame if they broke up. They’re strong brotherly bound will surely prevent that, at least i hope so.
NY favorite rockers [tag]Yeah Yeah Yeahs[/tag] will embark on a late summer tour in the US, to promote their soon to be released EP “Is Is“, due to be released on July 23 in the UK, and a day later in US.
The band will tour for a period on two weeks, beginning from the 1st of August in Lawrence, Kansas, spanning until the 18th of August when they’ll play at the grand Download Festival in Mansfield, Massachusetts.
NY rockers [tag]Yeah Yeah Yeahs[/tag] have recently released the music video for the leading track, from their latest EP “Is Is“, namely “Down Boy”. The video features the YYYs performing live on a stage Down Boy. Some cool upfront riffage by lead guitarist Nick Zinner and Karen O’s sudden shifts in notes makes a good track out of Down Boy, but also makes a great video. The video’s touch of blanc-noir is really cool, an makes the song feel more melancholic, especially in the low note vocals.
New York based indie trio [tag]Yeah Yeah Yeahs[/tag] are set to release their third EP: Is Is. The EP contains 5 brand new tracks and will be released on the 24th of July, via Fontana Interscope.
The songs from the EP were written in 2004, during their Fever to Telltour. The producer appointed by the band is Nick Launay (producer of Silverchair, Taking Heads). Vocalist Karen O had this to add about their choice for producer: “Nick Launay was the natural choice having produced PIL Flowers of Romance, collectively a favorite between us. I put that record on and want to stuff my mouth with raw hamburger meat.”
The EP will also contain film footage with the YYYs live shows in Grasslands Gallery in Brooklyn on May 7, where they played the tracks from the record.
Tracklist
Rocker to Swallow
Down Boy
Kiss Kiss
Isis
10×10
The EP will be available on CD, double gatefold 7” vinyl, single track download and digital bundle in addition to a special USB stick. All formats will carry all 5 tracks, making this a special, non chart-eligible, release.
Eccentricity is a word that would characterize the [tag]White Stripes[/tag] or maybe it’s just a strong sense of marketing, whatever it is White Stripes have surprised us again, this time by announcing that they will release the forthcoming album “Icky Thump” full-length in USB drive format.
This is a very limited edition, the 512 USB 2.0 drives will come in 3,333 Jack depicting units and 3,333 Meg depicting units ( see picture for reference) . You can buy the USB’s in a pair for a discount (99$) or separate if your prefer one of the Whites better (57$). Both of the versions of the drives come pre-loaded with Icky Thump in Apple Lossless format and will be shipped to the buyers from June 19th, the day of the album’s release in the US.
Everybody is all exited about [tag]White Stripes[/tag] new upcoming album, entitled “Icky Thump” scheduled for release on June 19th. A music video called as the album, “Icky Thump”, has been released a few days ago and since then caused a lot of fuss around it. I found the video awesome, some classic White Stripes hard rocking is present here, with Jack putting his guitar to good use with amazing riffs and Meg with some serious drumming.
The video is nicely made with a one eyed Mexican prostitute Meg and a no good gringo Jack, all happening in a Mexican whorehouse, pretty sweet!
Also for their 10th band anniversary the happy Whites, Jack and Meg will tour through al lot of places they’ve never been at in the USA and Canada.
“We were leery for a long time … we’d never had the trust in us to do it,” he says. “It would have been a bad idea to do that on ‘White Blood Cells.’ We had them all offering it then. But I think it would have been over very quickly for us. We would have been a new flavor of the week and probably would have been a one-hit wonder with ‘Fell in Love With a Girl.”
