Metallica and The Stooges among Rock and Roll Half of Fame nominees

Sometime last year I was pretty pissed off that two world shattering bands like Metallica or The Stooges didn’t make the cut for 2008’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees list. That was a bit non-cool. Anyway, it seems my lamentations were well heard and both bands, as well as Run-D.M.C., War, Wanda Jackson, Bobby Womack, Little Anthony and the Imperials, Chic, and Jeff Beck were added to the nominee list for 2009’s Half…

New AC/DC video: ‘Rock N’ Roll Train’

There you have it folks, the first official AC/DC video in a very, very long time is finally out! “Rock N’ Roll Train” is the first single off the Aussie hard rockers’ latest album, “Black Ice,” the first in eight years. As far as the video goes, it seems like it’s been copy/pasted off the rest of the bunch, but we don’t mind it all, because the song simply rocks! You know, it has the…

MGMT covers Laid Back at KCRW

The miraculous, extravagant, uber psyched out dance-punk duo, MGMT, dropped off by KCRW’s radio station yesterday, where they performed an awesome set. The powerful indie anthems, “Time to Pretend” and “Electric Feel,” were obviously the stand out songs, after all they’re the radio darlings, but the band surprised us by opting to also do a cover song. The victims covered artists were a ’80s Danish synth-pop band called Laid Back, that had a short break…

Download: Jack White & Alicia Keys – ‘Another Way to Die’

We’ve really talked about the new Bond theme song pretty extensively, these past few days, from the coke ad we first had the chance to glimpse a few riffs of it, to Jack White’s flattering praises when discussing his collaboration with Alicia Keys. Anyway, the latest Bond theme song, “Another Way to Die,” finally hit the air waves today, and, from the few listens I’ve had, it deserves the hype. The song’s simply wonderful! Jack…

Pinback kicks off autumn tour

Pinback’s last year Autumn of the Seraphans was really awesome for me, with a lot of great hooks and memorable riffs. Anyway, what better way to promote the album then an autumn tour? No pun intended, of course. The tour kicks off tonight, in Dallas, and is set to keep the band all busy the whole months of September and October. Joining Pinback on stage, during the curse of the tour, will be Kylesa, sBach…

A moment for Rick Wright

null

Every once in a while, we are reminded that even music legends are humans, and even they have to obey the laws set by mother nature for us. Rick Wright, keyboardist, song writer and founding member of Pink Floyd died at 65, in 15 September. While it’s very natural that we regret and shall miss him, now is not the time to feel sorry and regret; now is not the…

Some Rolling Stones fans wearing T-shirts with the famous logo.

What’s considered by many, the first form of band marketing and branding, the original Rolling Stones’ “The Tongue” logo art work, has been sold to a London Museum for the impressive sum of $92.500. The Tongue was designed by John Pasche in 1970 and got featured for the first time on 1971’s Sticky Fingers. In what was perhaps one of the…
