New Music Monday: May 10

The National‘s “High Violet“, one of the most anticipated releases of the year, is finally upon us once with its official drop this week. I’ve been streaming the album for the past two weeks now, and I can firmly say it’s definitely up to the hype. Big up!

After a series of rather disappointing past releases, UNKLE is also moving out a new record, the band’s fifth actually, in the form of “Where Did The Night Fall.” Jack White’s latest buzzing side project, The Dead Weather, is releasing its second effort “Sea of Cowards“, the follow-up to last year’s exiting debut “Horehound.”

My favorite lo-fi improvisers, the wacky Canadians from Holy Fuck, are back this week with their third record, titled “Latin“, which is already being regarded as one of the most impressive experimental rock records of the year.

Oh, and how could I go about posting this week’s New Music Monday without at least mentioning “Grey Oceans“, the new album by wacky sister act CocoRosie. It’s hard blending in freaky synths with various experimental sounds into music and expect it to sound at least listenable, or unpretentious for that matter, but these two girls manage to do much more than that.

Other new music I can recommend includes: “The Powerless Rise” by As I Lay Dying, “Night Train” (EP) by Keane, “At Echo Lake” by Woods or “Here’s To Taking It Easy” by Phosphorescent.
