Heavy Petty-ing (Sorry)

Handsome man? Or THE HANDSOMEST MAN? Or something entirely different.

Everyone still likes Tom Petty, correct? His Mudcrutch CD, as much as it was really just a Heartbreakers CD with a slightly different haircut and a trucker’s hat on, was quite excellent, and he does have the most hirsute of faces. Shaggy beards are always rock n’ roll (except, naturally enough, when it’s a rabid tramp whose face is housing the beard, and that face is currently knawing at your knees. But since, as far as I can possibly be aware, Petty is not a homeless lunatic, he is rock n’ roll. Here’s a question: does it make it less rock n’ roll to put the proper apostrophe after the “n” in “rock n’ roll”?)

Anyway.

Petty is back with the Heartbreakers – assuming you consider Mudcrutch a different band, and not simply a cunning alias – for his new album, Mojo. They had released a song (“Good Enough“) from the album for listenin’s. And now? Now there is another one of it – “I Should Have Known It”. Much like Petty’s beard, it is rock n’ roll at its finest. Also, Mike Campbell is demonstrably madskillzed, or something. Video of “I Should Have Known It”, and some tour details or something, below the cut.

That’s courtesy of YeahOYeah.com, so blame them for the ghastly UI that so interferingly infests the video.

And now some dates. Tour dates. Some of the opening acts Petty has kindly secured include Crosby, Stills and Nash, My Morning Jacket, and the Drive-By Truckers. That will be a lot of beard on show. Go to his official site for full listings. What am I, some kind of shill? (In actual fact, I am a kind of shell.)
