I’m not really a fan of the whole Guitar Rock/Rock Band gimmick. I don’t know, I guess I’ve never found any fun or joy in the games, even though everybody plays them. I’m not gonna go around making hypocritical remarks like “learn to play a real instrument, dude!” or “Metallica on Rock Band? You guys are so fucking selling out all over again,” it’s just that the concept of having a controler with four buttons which…
New Memory Cassette video: ‘Surfin/Body in the Water’
Lo-fi, cushy keyboards and a sturdy Mac make Memory Cassette’s sweet computer pop shine. What happens, though, when you soundrack MC over a vintage semi obscure ’80s movie scenary? Well, for one you get the new video for “Surfin/Body in the Water” directed by Pat Vamos, whom we last saw in action in another vintage video for the dreammy summer jam Sun Was High (So Was I). More Tawny Kitaen, I say! [via GorillavsBear] SURFIN’/BODY…
Grammys Can’t Headbang
Yes, this column is months and months late. Get over it. I wasn’t writing for ZME in February and, more importantly, I have a valid point to make. So here we go. The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences doesn’t know shit about music. The Grammy Awards used to mean something and were actually worth paying attention to. I don’t know when the award’s value began its downward trend. Perhaps it was when Album…
New Arctic Monkeys video: ‘Crying Lightning’ (live @ Late Night with Jimmy Fallon)
The band handled themselves marvelously during their live performance for Jimmy Fallon’s Late Night Show where they played their new single “Crying Lightning”. Not a lot of stage persona, but the sound was simply impecable! Seems like the band (and hair) is getting better and better as each album goes by. Check out the performance bellow or, for better quality, here. “Humbug” is out August 24th.
More Biffy Clyro Tour Details Announced
Pulled Apart By Horses. Image courtesy of The Spider Hill. Biffy Clyro have recently announced the support acts playing on their UK and Irish tour and more dates for later in the year which will see the band travel across Europe. Although initially the support was announced as Welsh rockers Future Of The Left this is now not the case due to unforeseen circumstances. The band will now be supported by Leeds lads Pulled Apart…
Finally – John Paul Jones, Josh Homme and Dave Grohl are Them Crooked Vultures!
Exactly one month ago we were stoked to report the formation of one of the most awesome supergroups to see the light of day in years – a band comprised of none other than Led Zep’s John Paul Jones, Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl and Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme. Today, we’ve got a name for the three – The Crooked Vultures. Looks like the band’s first show will be held at Chicago’s Metro…
New lost Modest Mouse video: ‘King Rat’ (directed by Heath Ledger)
Seems like Modest Mouse’s frontman Isaac Brock and the late Heath Ledger were friends, revealing, among other things, in a past interview 2007 interview, that the two had been working on a music video for one of the band’s songs “King Rat” (any tie to the James Clavell novel?). The song didn’t make the cut for MM’s ‘We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank’ LP, but you can find it now in their recently…
New Weird Al Yankovic video: ‘Charles Nelson Reilly’
After Weird Al’s last kinda depressingly fun video for Skipper Dan, he’s finally back to his hilarious self with his latest video for “CNL”, packed with loads of parody and his all too sweet hooks. The whole video is a tribute to the great dearly departed Charles Nelson Reilly, one of the most beloved comical actors both on stage and TV. On CNL Al goes for a Chuck Norris take on Reilly’s life, singing an…
New Bat for Lashes video – ‘Sleep Alone’
I expected a more mystical approach in the video for the eerie “Sleep Alone,” at least somewhere along the lines of Pearl’s Dream. However, even though it’s not very spiritually/mystical and so on, the video is still very much weird and packed with subtleties. At heart, it’s quite simple. Nat can’t stand to sleep alone, so she builds a robot like guardian, which she dreamt, out of cardboard and weird red triangles which she gathered…
Jay’s Blueprint 3 cover art revealed
Seeing how Jay-Z’s upcoming eleventh album, “Blueprint 3,” is just weeks away from its release, it’s pretty understandable what’s with all the buzz around Hova lately. Just yesterday we posted about Hova’s awesome APW performance where he covered a Beastie Boys song. Now, today, we’ve got our hands on the official Blueprint 3 cover art – an all white scenery comprised of all kinds of musical instruments and equipment. Not much sense to it and…
