Jay-Z performing at the All Points West Festival. (c) Melanism.com After MCA’s terrible cancer diagnosis and the consequent Beastie Boys canceled tour dates, a lot of APW Fest goers were left disappointed … or were they? Soon after the Beastie Boys had to cancel their appearance at Jersey City music & arts festival, officials announced their replacement will be none other than Jay-Z! The APW fest underwent this weekend, and, as expected, Jay-Z stormed the…
New A Camp video: ‘Love Has Left The Room’
Nina Persson is simply lovely in her latest video for the nostalgic “Love Has Left The Room.” Director Maximilla Lukacs added a delightful touch of baroque-esque lighting and setting which makes the video look even more bohemian and reminiscent. What does Nina when Love Has Left The Room? She goes for long strolls on the beach, watches old sailors play chess, before realizing the best thing to do is wait for a new suitor to…
Severed Ways: The Viking’s Answer to Napoleon Dynamite
Today, I’ll be reviewing Severed Ways: The Norse Discovery of North America, a movie whose long and drawn-out title should say it all, but in case it doesn’t, I’ll explain a little: it is a movie that follows the struggle of two battle-weary Norse warriors to rejoin the rest of the exploring party following a massive battle against Native Americans. My first impression after reading the back of the packaging was one of anticipation. After…

The Pixies map the Doolittle Anniversary tour
In honor of, what’s probably, The Pixies’ most loved album “Doolittle” 20th anniversary, the band will head out on a North America/Europe tour where selected tracks from the album, plus B sides, will be performed. The first to get a glimpse of the influential alt rockers will be the European peeps, pretty soon enough starting late September/October. North America soon follows after that. “We wanted to do something special for Doolittle’s 20th anniversary,” said Pixies…

New Final Fantasy video – ‘Lewis Takes Off His Shirt’
Epic weather went hand in hand with Owen Pallet’s (Final Fantasy) epic performance at the recent Hillside Festival in Guelph, Ontario, where the multi-versed talented musician delivered one hell of a show. Interestingly enough, Owen played quite a lot of songs off his new and upcoming album “Heartland,” including “Lewis Takes Off His Shirt” part of the pack of new material. In the video bellow, you can see Owen defying nature, whilst playing Lewis Takes…
Buddyhead interviews Bradford Cox (Deerhunter, Atlas Sound)
Buddyhead just recently caught up with the Deerhunter/Atlas Sound frontman Brandford Cox and made this … let’s say insightful interview. Don’t threat guys, he’s not robotripping, he’s just got some sort of weird ass flu (swine flu maybe?!). The dude’s still very much insane though! The interview peaks at well over 20 mins, but it’s definitely fun to watch Cox babbling like he’s on two tons of acid. Haha! Atlas Sound’s new record, “Logos,” will…

New Grizzly Bear video: ‘Ready, Able’ (live @ Letterman)
So that’s how you pronounce “Veckatimest”! Thanks, Dave. Grizzly Bear paid a visit to Letterman’s Late Show last week (how the heck did I miss this?!), where they played an incredible performance of “Ready, Able” with a string quartet. The end result was simply stunning – clean, sharp and full of passion. No One Does It Like Grizzly Bear, I guess :). Definitely glad they didn’t choose to play the usual Two Weeks. Which reminds…
