The Week in Music – #29

We’ve got something different in stored for you guys today as we release a new ZME feature – “The Week in Music.”  Every Friday we’ll be highlighting interesting events in the music scene from across the web, as well as from our own posts, since you can never know when something REALLY important passes you by. Don’t be alarmed by the “#29,” it’s not the 29th post in the feature, it’s just the 29th week of the year. Anyway, here we go:

• Our in New Music Monday this week: The Fiery Furnaces, Rx Bandits, Portugal The Man, Magnolia Electric Co. and Ian Hunter.
• Coldplay streamed their new Strawberry Fair video.
• Pearl Jam unveiled a new single called “The Fixer” which we streamed.
• Atlas Sound released a new song in collaboration with Animal Collective’s Panda Bear titled Walkabout
• We found this awesome 8 bit Weezer compilation that no one is entitled to miss. Download it here.
• Paste offers some pretty interesting insights from the Pitchfork Music Festival which took place last weekend.
• Thom premiered a new incredible song at the Latitude Fest, called The Present Tense. In other not so fun Thom Yorke related news, the Radiohead frontman has now been confirmed as a contributor to the new Twilight squeal, New Moon.
• Serving as this week’s most shocking news, Beastie Boys’ MCA was diagnosed with cancer, and such the band had to cancel tour dates and postpone the new album release date.
• Trent is kinda of a big deal: over twitter.
• Indiescreet profiles Delphic.
• The Morning News goes through round table interview format with six of the blogsphere’s most influential bloggers. MUST READ!
• The Dead Weather played Jimmy Fallon (great performance).
• The Fiery Furnaces get a B+ review by the AV on their latest record “I’m Going Away.”
• The Beatles: Rock Band seems more and more close with this recent trailer.
• ZME Music interviews Electrelane.
