The Spice Girls kick off their new world tour

sg256.jpg“Girl Power” has aged surprisingly well when you look at the way that the girls began their tour on Sunday night in front of nearly 16,000 screaming fans at GM Place. The five of them sang and appeared to be full of energy when doing their fun and often racy live act.

The five Spices – Scary (Mel B), Ginger (Geri Halliwell), Posh (Victoria Beckham), Sporty (Mel C) and Baby (Emma Bunton) have not sung together since 1998 when Halliwell shocked the pop world by leaving the highly successful group. They then continued to be a four member band but after that they were finished.

Now her hair is blonder but the group’s famous and fabulous “girl power” appears to be fully intact. They opened the concert with a trio of hits – Spice Up Your Life, Stop and Say You’ll Be Ther. This was a wise choice which shows that they have learned a thing or two from the entertainment bussiness or at least that they have good managers. “Is it good to see us back on stage together again?” asked Bunton to a roar of screams.

You girls are a bit older but you are good. You should thank your genes for aging well or your make up artists. Truthfully, the bulk of the audience seemed to be wig-and- costume wearing teenage and twentysomething women who were happily reliving their childhood in the mid-to-late ’90s of the Spice Girls heyday.

But for the fans the show was about having fun with the Spice Girls and they did their best to entertain the crowd. Here is what the Spice Girls played on Sunday night at the world tour launch in Vancouver:
