Hot Streaming: two new songs from Monsters of Folk

Monsters of Folk

Monsters of Folk

Have I ever mentioned what’s my second favorite super group of the year? Coming before The Dead Weather, and beneath the Josh Homme/Dave Grohl/J.P Jones extravaganza (you can’t possibly compete with this. sorry) is the newly confirmed Monsters of Folk, comprised of Jim James (My Morning Jacket), M. Ward (solo/She & Him), Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis (Bright Eyes). Exactly what I thought too!

The first single off the MoF’s upcoming self titled is “Say Please,” a song that we’ve had a chance to listen to for quite a while on the band’s myspace, being in a way exactly what you’d expect to get when putting these four lyrical masterminds in the same studio. Now, while Say Please is in many ways pretty mediocre (interesting acoustic rythm, but way too out of line solo), the band sure made up for any small flaws it might have shown by now through these two new songs “Dear God (Sincerely M.O.F)” and “The Sandman, the Brakeman, and Me” which just got posted on their myspace.

Dear God, for one, is simply bloody brilliant! The percussion is amazing and Jim Jones’ chorus hooks are rightfully gorgeous! The Sandman, the Brakeman, and Me is a beautiful slow jam of the most excuisit folk chops and song writing. Check both track at the Monsters of Folk myspace. Bellow you can download the single Say Please.
