Queen planning new album with Freddie Mercury

Queen are apparently considering releasing a new album with unheard demo songs recorded with Freddie Mercury. It was recently revealed that Freddie’s duets with Michael Jackson were set for a future release, but now guitarist Bryan May apparently wants to use them as part of something bigger – adding them to other (currently unfinished) songs from the band’s sessions for 1995 album, “Made In Heaven.” “We thought we’d exhausted everything that was around and could…

The Trend and Dangers of Pop and Rock Covers in Jazz

Here’s something that you don’t see often anymore: an audience cheering at a jazz spot when the musicians on stage introduce the first few notes of one of their original tunes. Perhaps it’s simply because few are playing the album releases on repeat in their home or car as they would with a number of rock or pop artists. Maybe it’s because that there just isn’t anything to “sing along to.” Yes, it’s a pain…

Quickie album review: Patrick Stump, “Soul Punk”

In which the former Fall Out Boy singer/guitarist/genius behind-ist channels his most obvious influence (Michael) and makes a soundtrack to a John Hughes film that’ll never be.  A synth brush allows Stump to paint in broad strokes which, in turn, lets all of the (catchy as hell) melodies bouncing around in his head to come through.  The absence of power chords allows his underrated vocal talents to soar on ohh’s and ahh’s to the top…

Al Byrne’s Radio Bile

So, apparently, the 16th MTV European Music Awards “went down” on Thursday. Did you notice? I didn’t – I was preoccupied with more relevant, pressing matters, like noticing that ooh, it’s getting quite cold this time of year, and hey, I need a shave. Of course, the fact that these two realisations came in quick succession meant that my addled brain became quite confused, and I ended up shaving my woolly fleece. Live and learn,…

Download: Erykah Badu & The Roots – ‘I Wanna Be Where You Are’ (Michael Jackson cover)

The world is still left ravashed after Michael Jackson fell in death’s cold grip, however his timeless music will undoubtedly continue to live on for generation to come. He may have had his reputation and even life taken away, but no one can touch his legacy. Honoring his legacy is also Erykah Badu, who before her “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” Friday night performance ralied up Jimmy’s house band The Roots back stage and played…

Michael Jackson’s thriller on Broadway? Gosh…

In a recent NY Times news blurp, it’s said that Michael Jackson’s epic pop masterpiece, the 1982 “Thriller,” will most likely get revamped as a Broadway musical, after the Nederlander Organization bought off the rights to produce it. According to the NYT,  the whole album, along with MJ’s other smashing record, “Off The Wall,” will serve as soundtracks, while one of the most popular music video ever made will, probably, be the concept. Dancing zombies…

New Music Monday: 11 February

This week sees [tag]Morrissey[/tag] releasing his sixth greatest hits album, titled, well you’ve guest it “Greatest Hits”. One has to wonder if the Moz really has that many hits or this is another fan money exploitation, whichever it is doesn’t matter anymore, as I’m more then sure he’ll make up for it with his forthcoming brand new album this year. Laura Marling, a young promising folk singer/songwriter from Reading, is making her sought after debut…

New Michael Jackson video: ‘Billy Jean 08’ (Kanye West remix)

Some time ago we did a Thriller 25th anniversary special post, in which we discussed [tag]Michael Jackson[/tag]’s iconic album from its sound to its sales to its legacy. Also back then we mentioned there was gonna be a re-issue with remixes and covers, from the current pop and R&B celebrities. Such a re-edited track is MJ’s smashing Billy Jean, on which [tag]Kanye West[/tag] put his word class producing skills to the test, by infusing some…

25 years of Thriller, special edition re-issue

I believe it’s safe to say that [tag]Michael Jackson[/tag]’s Thriller is one of the best records ever made, an album that brought a dose of fresh funk and at a same time a dash of claustrophobia to the back then transitioning music scene. It was the album, with song for everyone and anytime, from rock to soul, thus Michael’s Thriller got to influence much of the ’80s and although he is now just a shadow…

Jackson thanks Jackson

That is Burkle for financial advice. He stated in a court deposition that Rev. Jesse Jackson and billionaire Ron Burkle gave him advice to help save him from financial disaster when he was fighting child molestation charges. He had a lot of trouble back then and the two helped him get out of most of it. The New York Daily News said in Sunday’s editions that it had reviewed seven hours of transcripts, and they…
